Might be explorable..

Located right about here: 39.575187, -119.912318

I didn't go in, however their was a nice cool breeze coming from this opening.... didn't have any off smells but air seems to be flowing very well and it was very cool.  Might require some debris removal to access, or finding the other end of up.. There's another opening that might be easier up the hill accros the road..

Pretty sure it's inclined down at a fairly steep angle, at least at that point.

That tunnel goes under the road where I took the below picture.  If you open up a larger version of that you can see a firepit, and a small 'trail' heading down and a bit to the left of the image.  I was standing on that trail probably 6' beyond the bottom of the frame when I took the above.

Further up the mountain I saw a smallish foundation, Wife didn't feel like getting out and looking at that point..   Seemed the right size for a winch, perhaps they ran cars on a winch down that tunnel into the main workings...  just a WAG on my part of course... may not have lined up with that tunnel at all ;-)

Might end up out there with another rider, he's very much into geology.. if we spend any time really investigating this area.. I'll post more details..

    • Nice stuff. There is a school out by my neck of the woods built in a similar fashion. I'd go take pictures of it but rumor has it there's a guy living in there who's a little on the unhinged side. I think a lot of the schools built out West in that era were based all on the same basic pattern.
    • give public restroom a whole nother meaning...
    • Talking of my interpretation of these pictographs and petroglyphs, I thought I was the geek but the rumors where I'm from says that the americans had multiple language families in 1492 something Indo-European speaker never had.  This collection you documented just reconfirms it for me.
    • That looks some kind of wagon to me. Or maybe a trailer. Probably used to haul the stuff came from the mining site.
That trail reminds me of our first trail trip with our '88 Wrangler YJ. Hoping to finish its restoration and install the Smittybilt SRC roof rack thing coming month.
    • lol I have a friend in Cheyenne when I visit him I'll have to visit here!
